A hiker was rescued after getting injured and being left behind by other backpackers at Kanab Creek, in the north rim of the Grand Canyon on Friday evening, according to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue.

On Sept. 15, at around 6 p.m., the Sheriff’s Office received a call from a man using an Apple device through satellite connection needing help, authorities said.

The Sheriff’s Office said that a 63-year-old man, who at the time was backpacking with four other people, suffered a traumatic shoulder injury that required emergency medical attention. The search and rescue team responded to the area of the injured hiker’s phone location. The Department of Public Safety Western Air Rescue helicopter deployed from Kingman to assist in the rescue.
