JACKSON — Stepping into the Teton County Search and Rescue hangar and seeing a gleaming new helicopter in all her Ferrari-red glory, it’s hard not to well up with community pride. The urge to drool isn’t far away either.

The custom search and rescue helicopter arrived Oct. 14, making Teton County the first in Wyoming to have its own rescue helicopter. It took a nine-month campaign by the Teton County Search and Rescue Foundation to secure the $7.25 million needed to bring the year-round rescue-dedicated craft home.

The freshly built H125 — interchangeably called an AS350 — is a light, small aircraft, designed to fly in the mountains. Built by the French company Airbus, it’s the same type of helicopter that once landed on the summit of Mount Everest.
